Dolphin RTH - Early Impressions

Its too soon to review, but I will say.... 14 days after I ordered, and its all here, China to the W. Coast USA. Well packed, and the entire package, plane, transmitter, electronics.... all cost less for shipping than I just had to pay to ship a CADDX camera the size of a small coin!

So... I've never set up a flight controller and its accoutrements. I chose this RTH package mostly as a learning exercise... figure if I get one all set up already, and go through things, I'll learn much faster than endless searches and YouTubes. Maybe. I unboxed it couple days ago, and am still staring at plugs on at least half dozen cables and counting pins and trying to match them up with the one page schematic.

If I knew exactly what I'm doing, this would be super easy. I'm proficient with electronics, schematics, soldering, etc. and RC piloting. I understand exactly what INAV is and does, but have no experience with it. So far in my studies, its impressive, and the UI makes sense, mostly.

I obviously haven't flown the Dolphin yet, but it appears to be a "bank and yank but with no yank! No rudder, no elevator, just lots of stabilizing fins, so how hard can it be? I'm guessing its nowhere near testing INAV's limits or abilities. Also guessing it breaks props regularly with no folding or pivoting blades to facilitate landings.

The plane is designed for sticking a GoPro in its nose. For mounting a regular 19mm camera there's a 19mm divot in the foam. Nowhere to mount a gimbal without carving it up, near as I can tell. Since I dislike GoPros, there's plenty of foam and real estate up front for carving on, assuming I guess, that I'll glue the nose on. None of the magnets in the two hatches and nose hold well, but the hatches fit nicely. Website said the "camera cable" was already installed... but I think its just "installed" in the anti-static bag with the camera!!!
"Detachable Wings for Easy Transport"? Only thing holding them on is friction and a servo cable. The thing is tiny anyway, so I'll glue them on.

I can see this turning into a real fun low-pressure plane to zoom around "in"! Although sad that there's no digital camera option, its meeting my objective of getting everything I need in one order from one place, to learn the ins and outs of INAV & FC's in RC planes. I'm almost certain when its all done and tested and flown a few times, I'll be gutting it and reinstalling/reconfiguring the electronics in a more capable scale model.
ONE POINT: The printed instructions are really really bad.
Final Thoughts: Its really nice of them to send 6 props. Looks like it will need them. SUPER service... they had shipping info to me an hour after I ordered, and it all arrived expediently! I got what I came here for! We'll see if I ever figure it all out!

The TX16s radio is very good. The magnets on the casing could be stronger.

New to the hobby

The kit is awsome, I ordered the RTH FPV Dolphin and I received all that I wanted.
Being new to the sport I wish that the kit came with more instructions on how to put everything together , but it’s cool I got YouTube for that.
Other then that I’m well pleased with the kit and I would definitely recommend it to anyone else who wants to learn how to fly fpv.
